My four-year-old son checked this book out from the library this week. This story might have been written for my son. Especially the part about the lemonade and the telling of stories. I really liked the text. It is written in rhyme, and fairly well done. I love all the positive affirmations for every stage, from babyhood to school age. I don't really like the illustrations. They are fun and colorful, but they are that messy, cartoonish style that annoys me a bit.

HOW YOU GOT SO SMART was a book that came highly recommended. When I ordered it from the library, I didn't really give much thought to what the title actually denotes. My compliments: The illustrations are adorable, and go perfectly with the text! Certainly, from a parent or grandparents point of view, what's depicted of the little boy as a baby, dropping things on the floor, putting everything in his mouth, playing with the pots and pans, etc can't help but bring a smile. He asks the incessant t [...]

From infant to child, you have a come a long, long way! This book reveals just how you got as smart as you are. You watched and listened. Chewed on things. Explored and asked lots of questions. You investigated, made friends, and were very brave. Each and every step taught you something, and that is what made you so very smart. This jolly book takes a humorous but sincere look at how babies grow into amazing children every day.Milgrim’s success with this book is in its tone. It is funny but re [...]

How You Got So Smart by David Milgrim is a book that celebrates the milestones of childhood. It follows a baby boy as he grows and learns and goes through school and becomes "so smart".My daughter liked the book, especially Milgrim's complex and often times silly illustrations. For instance, there's typically a pink doughnut on the page. I don't know if this is something he does in every book but it certainly caught our attention in this one.The only think Harriet wanted to be different with the [...]

A nice way to give kids props for all that they do to grow as people, showing that being smart is beyond "book-smarts." Some of the kid's accomplishments I would question, like trying new food (eww it looked like squid). Still, I'm sure many pages will resonate with young readers. I did have to read Milgrim's author biography aloud to staff, as it well summed up the book.

This book humorously and playfully looks at the stages of growing up: from the taste-everything stage, to the ask-a-thousand-questions stage. A very clever look at the ways children explore and learn about their world.

This book was okay. I though that it would have been a better book to show children but I just really didn't like it. To me it didn't seem realistic. I would recommend this book for no one, I didn't like it one bit.

This is like a poem. It's very sweet. This is an easy read for children. This book will give young children inspirations. It tells children that they are smart the day they were born.Children need that kind of encouragement.

In some ways I liked this even better than "Oh the Places You'll Go".

This book was so inspirational and I love how it rhymed! I could really put myself in the story and relate to the text. The pictures went perfectly with the storyline as well.

Nice rhythm, nice rhyme, sort of a "Congratulations, You Did It!" book for Kindergarten or Grade School Grads.

I can totally see this book being a book parents buy for their kids at high school graduation, kind of like "Oh, the Places You'll Go." A really sweet, encouraging book.

This would make a nice one on one book with a child entering or leaving kindergarten, or just whenever your child needs a self esteem boost.

A perfect preschool graduation present book. So much growing up in those preschool years and for kids who are in daycare it is really a lot of time they spend together
