The author has done his research thoroughly and presents compelling case studies and more to show the importance of slowing down and enjoying the meal.     This is another book I wasn't sure I'd actually enjoy reading, and I ended up truly savoring it. It's as much about spiritual life as it is about food, and yet another book that's best read very, very slowly, as it's full of depth and encourages a thoughtful approach (kind of like the title suggests). It's inspiring--again, not just about how to choose what to eat, but really how to live your life.

The advice is not hard to apply, but probably something you've never even thought about; for example, breathe before and during your meal. Simple, right?     Full of interesting ideas about what and how to eat. Not really a "diet," per se--which is good. I don't need another diet. I need ideas about how to feed myself nicely. This book mixed the physical and measureable up with the intellectual and spiritual. Lots of his ideas about the impact of stress on metabolism, when to eat, and listening to your body made sense to me. Worth reading.

This book is full of great suggestions about mindfulness in eating, the importance of pleasure, etc. I just wish that he didn't imply that eating that way will lead to weight loss, when he knows that it might for some and not others.     This book, although called a diet book, is so much more. It emcompasses not just what you eat, but how, why, and more. I appreciated the research the author was able to cite to back up his claims, such as that eating slower actually increases metabolism. He devotes chapters to the quality of the food we eat, how to eat more mindfully, with gratitude, and with pleasure.

    Highly recommend this book for anyone who would like to have a healthier relationship with food. There are some great thinking/writing exercises, so it may take a while to get through, but it is worthwhile.
